The Story

Writing by hand demands focus and intention, engaging your senses in a way that typing never can. The feeling of pencil on paper promotes clarity and calm, grounding you in the moment and creating space for deeper reflection.

Each pencil is adorned with a sleek gradient that evolves as you sharpen and a guiding phrase: "It is always now," "You are not your thoughts," "Where is your mind?," or "Begin again."

Pencils (Set of 12)

Made from California incense cedar and premium Japanese graphite, each pencil is finished with a smooth matte topcoat that feels great in the hand.

With firm graphite designed for journaling and sketching, these pencils are built to support whatever your practice calls for.

The Pencil Set includes 12 Blackwing x Waking Up Pencils with the four imprinted phrases.

About Blackwing

Blackwing pencils have been adored by legendary award-winning creators since the 1930s. The list of notable Blackwing users includes the likes of John Steinbeck, Truman Capote, and Stephen Sondheim among many others. Despite a cult following, they fell victim to cost-cutting measures in the 1990s and were discontinued. Analog-minded devotees began paying as much as $40 for a single pencil. Blackwing pencils were reinvented and reintroduced in 2010 for a growing culture of artists, musicians, and everyday people looking to slow down and live mindfully.
